Tech Talk- Thinking Outside the Box- Introduction to Open Educational Resources

Thinking Outside the Box- Intro to Open Educational Resources (OER)

A recording of this presentation is available at https://youtu.be/LwhWRD_-qKY

How do you currently find your curricular resources? Are you a searcher or a browser? Do you read the index of a catalog or do you look at the cover and open to page 1 and start leafing through it? Do you get suggestions from a colleague or a professional group?

The intent of this Tech Talk was to introduce the attendees to what OER are available: how to find them; and considerations for using OER.

This Tech Talk was originally presented March 3, 2016.
It provided a macro view of the topic of OER.

In future Tech Talks we plan to target particular resources and drill deeper into those resources.

Today's Topics:
  • What are OER?
  • Why should we care about OER?
  • A Sample of OER
  • What are the challenges for OER in higher ed
  • How to find what you are lookin g for?
  • How to share OER content?
  • Success Stories
  • Getting Started

What are OER?

"high-quality, openly licensed, online educational materials that offer an extraordinary opportunity for people everywhere to share, use, and reuse knowledge"

Why should we care about OER?

**7 Things to Know About OER

Samples of OER

Thanks to all who attended yesterday’s tech talk on Zoom.

We had a great group with inquiring and receptive minds.

I venture to say the 30-45 minutes you invested yesterday, will have a payback of at least 2-4 times that or more (savings in travel time alone)
